Porcelain Countertop FAQs

What is Porcelain made of?

  • Engineered Composition: A blend of natural minerals including quartz, porcelain, and glass, fused together without the use of resins or binders.
  • Manufacturing Process: Produced using Sinterized Particle Technology (SPT), which applies extreme heat and pressure to replicate the natural stone-forming process in a matter of hours, creating a dense, ultra-compact slab.
  • Performance Characteristics: Non-porous, highly resistant to scratches, stains, UV rays, and thermal shock, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

How Do You Care for and Maintain Porcelain?

  • Daily Cleaning: Simply wipe with a damp cloth or sponge and mild dish soap; no special cleaners are required.

  • No Sealing Needed: Porcelain is non-porous and does not require sealing—ever.

  • Avoid Harsh Tools: While resistant to most chemicals, avoid using abrasive scouring pads or strong paint strippers, oven cleaners, or drain uncloggers.

  • Heat & Impact Protection: Porcelain can handle high heat, but to protect cookware and reduce risk of edge chipping, it’s still recommended to use trivets or pads. Use cutting boards to preserve your knives and minimize any risk of chipping.

  • Stain Resistance: Stains from wine, oil, coffee, or citrus will not penetrate; simply wipe spills away without worry.

What Should Customers Expect from Porcelain?

  • Consistency: Unlike natural stone, Porcelain slabs are engineered to be uniform in color and pattern, offering a consistent look across the entire surface.

  • Seams: Seams are still present in large installations, but thanks to the material’s precision manufacturing, color and pattern alignment is more predictable.

  • Porosity: Porcelain is non-porous, so it does not absorb liquids—no sealing is required, and it resists stains from coffee, wine, oils, or citrus.

  • Maintenance: Virtually maintenance-free; simple soap and water are sufficient for daily care, with no need for periodic sealing or special treatments.

  • Heat & Scratch Resistance:

    • Heat: Highly resistant to extreme temperatures—hot pans, pots, or appliances can be placed directly on the surface without risk of burning or discoloration.

    • Scratches & Chips: Porcelain is extremely scratch-resistant, though cutting directly on the surface can dull knives; chips may occur on exposed edges if subjected to hard impact.
